Pickleball for Incarcerated Individuals
Joanne Kennedy writes:

Pickleball for incarcerated individuals builds social skills to improve interactions while in prison and promotes successful transition back into society. Roger Bel Air has been my mentor to bring pickleball to Washington Correctional Center for Women (formerly known as Purdy.)

We started a year ago with 5 volunteers who would travel to Gig Harbor and teach the women the game. We donated paddles, balls and encouraged staff to buy nets that did not sag. The incarcerated women were enthusiastic about the game and enjoyed playing it with us. We gave positive feedback and they were impressed that we came all the way from Seattle to teach them pickleball. We as volunteers felt we were making a difference in their lives and it made a difference in ours lives as well.
